Van Halen at the Super Bowl!

About those Super Bowl halftime rumors linked to Van Halen, David Lee Roth said the band would accept "in a New York minute." There's only one thing that stands in the way of them accepting the gig however, and that's the simple fact that they haven't been asked. Roth has addressed the rumors in an open letter posted on the Van Halen News Desk fansite. The singer writes, "Playing at the Superbowl is a veritable holy grail of musical recognition, a highly prized rite of passage for (game-changing) artists," but adds, "We are not on Commissioner Goodell's dance card at this time, but we would be most honored to dance the halftime away in New Orleans." Roth signs off saying, "It's an honor to be considered and for that we would like to thank the rumormongers all over the World Wide Web."

Reports about Van Halen's possible involvement with the Super Bowl began to circulate when guitarist Eddie Van Halen recently hinted that the band may be doing "something special" in the new year after Van Halen canceled an entire leg of its reunion tour. Eddie told "USA Today" that the group "bit off more than they could chew" with the extensive tour run but said they would tour Japan in November.

What do you think? Would you watch the halftime show if Van Halen played? Leave a comment or send me an email ben@yourq102.com.
